The man accused of setting his wife on fire will go to trial in Attala County Circuit Court. However, Sheriff William Lee said he doesn’t know which court term.
Clifton Groves, 33, is charged with aggravated domestic violence for throwing rubbing alcohol on his wife, Ilona, and setting her on fire Sept. 2 at their home on Highway 429 in Sallis.
Lee said his department was alerted about Ilona’s burns by Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
He added that the couple had an altercation that led to the fire.
Ilona was airlifted to a Georgia burn center and is in stable condition. The degree of her burns is unknown.
Clifton turned himself into Lexington Police Department.
