McAdams sweeps arch-rival Durant
McADAMS — Homestanding McAdams jumped out to an early lead, then held off a late rally to take a 71-65 win over No. 5 ranked Durant in boys prep basketball action on Thursday night.
McAdams now holds a 2-to-1 edge in the series so far this season heading into the Region 6-1A Tournament set for McAdams beginning Feb. 9.
Patrick Lewis scored 26 points to lead 14-4 McAdams, which led 20-12 after one quarter and 43-32 at the half. The Tigers, now 14-5 on the season, outscored the Bulldogs 21-14 in the third quarter to cut the McAdams lead to four going into the final quarter of play but the home team was able to hold on for the victory.
Jekele Snow scored 16 for McAdams, while Van Love added 10.
Cortez Frizell led Durant with 20 points, while Tevin Marzette scored 11, Garmarcus Thomas 10 and Cody James nine.
The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in MHSAA Class 1A, led 24-8 after one quarter of play on the way to a 75-40 win over Durant.
Four players scored in double figures for McAdams, which ran its record to 18-2 with the win.
Kanesha Phillips led the way with 17 points, while Dierra Gilmore scored 16, Kierra Gilmore and Precious Ellington scored 14 each and Marquita Phillips tossed in 13.
McAdams visits Edinburg on Friday night.
