The December burglary of Harold Nowell’s residence on Highway 14 next to Lake Inn Resort has been solved by the Attala County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff William Lee said a safe and its content of more than $100,000, a rifle and antique silverware were taken from the residence in December.
After successful interviews, Lee and his department have charged Cecil K. Barber, 42, Daniel “Rudy” Harvey, 26, and LaWayne Conrad Phillips, 20, all of Sallis with burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny on March 1.
Lee said the men carried the safe to Leake County where they dumped it into the Yockanookany River.
With the help of the Choctaw County Fire Department divers, deputies were able to locate the safe, some of the silverware and the rifle. Only $16,000 in cash was recovered.
Barber is out on $100,000 bond while Harvey and Phillips are in Attala County Jail. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations helped with the case.
