Bloomers open house set for Friday

By Mark Thornton

Bloomers, on the west side of the square, will host an open house on Friday, 3-5:30 p.m. The full-service florist/gift shop is now under the ownership of brother and sister Terry Overstreet and Don Moore.

Overstreet retired three years ago after 30 years as a Social Security claims representative, and Moore was a backup pit manager at the Pearl River Resort for 10 years. They bought the business from Sherry Roebuck. Ruby Moore is still floral designer.

Overstreet said she and her brother almost started a business like Bloomers five years ago, but it didn’t work out. This time, the timing was right.

Bloomers will continue to be a full-service florist, specializing in funeral designs, weddings, cut arrangements, fresh flowers, silk arrangements, custom designs and a full line of plants and special orders and delivery.

The shop is also carrying a new line of Bean’s Ferry Pottery, a faith-based company from Fulton. Overstreet said a new line of candles and bath and body products will arrive soon.

“We’ll continually be adding new lines,” she said.
