KOSCIUSKO —
When it’s the weekend before football practice begins – Why not go to the beach? After all, it was just oil spill research for the newspaper.
Paul and I traveled to Foley/Gulf Shores, Ala., and Destin, Fla., over the weekend for one last get-away before football season officially kicks off with Monday practice.
In Destin, the water was still bright blue and we did spot some cleanup crews as we drove by the sandy beaches. We also saw plenty of people heading to the beach and boats in the water.
And alongside of the roadways were signs saying “Honk if you love the Gulf” and asking for passersby to call a Florida senator.
Over in Gulf Shores, hotels and other businesses thanked people for their support of the coastal waters.
Paul and I visited with a local seafood merchant in Foley before heading home. While she told us the oil spill has hurt her business some, she was still able to get her seafood from Florida.
There are still shoppers, beach lovers and seafood eaters visiting the coast. I am proud to be one of them.
Football – It’s here already?
It seems like the high school football season comes earlier and earlier each year. Official football practice kicked off on Monday.
And scrimmages are slated for Friday, Aug. 13. YIKES!
I love Friday nights when the lights come on – It’s magic. But there is a lot of hard work that leads up to those Fridays. Look for my inside look at football season in weeks to come.
Oh and Ethel Tiger fans – I don’t know who is going to be the quarterback. Guess you will find out on the first Friday night.
‘Bachelor,’ ‘Bachelorette’
Why do I watch this crap? I am sure there are millions of women that ask themselves that after each edition of the two hit shows.
I am a viewer of both shows and as the latest installment of “The Bachelorette” about to air its final episode, I am hopeful that Ali will find her Prince Charming but realistic enough to know that only two of the shows’ couples have lasted.
It’s like reality TV crack and the hopeless romantic in me just can’t give it up!
