Goodbye summer: School starts Monday

KOSCIUSKO — The wheels on the bus will be going round and round on Monday as Kosciusko and Attala County students are back in session after the summer break.

In Kosciusko, sixth grade orientation at Kosciusko Junior High School will be Friday from 8-11 a.m. Students will be issued their schedule, books, workbooks, locker,  and planner.  

Parents are responsible for dropping off and picking up students.  

Junior High open house will be Tuesday, August 14, at 6 p.m.   

Ninth grade orientation has already been held for students at Kosciusko  High School. An open house at the high school has been set for Thursday, August 16, at 6 p.m.

Open house for the rest of the Kosciusko schools include: Lower Elementary on today (Thursday) at 6 p.m., Middle Elementary Tuesday, August 7, at 6 p.m. and Upper Elementary Thursday, August 9, at 8 a.m.

The Attala County School District Back-to-School event is planned today (Thursday) from 4-6 p.m. at Greenlee Elementary, Ethel High School, Long Creek Elementary and McAdams High School.

Students can bring supplies, meet teachers, receive schedules, and do beginning of the year paperwork. Ethel High will not be giving out schedules until Monday.

Those in attendance at Ethel will get a teacher directory.  An Ethel High School Booster Club meeting has been set for Thursday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

At Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington, a Back to School Night  is planned tonight (Thursday) beginning at 6.

Presbyterian Day School’s open house is Monday at 6 p.m.

In nearby Choctaw County, French Camp Academy faculty and staff members are in orientation this week. Students will arrive on Tuesday, August 7, and Wednesday, August 8,  with the first day of classes to be held on Thursday, August 9.

Holmes Community College is offering online registration 24-7 by logging on www.holmescc.edu.

At the Attala Educational Center in Kosciusko registration will be held on Thursday, August 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 1-800-HOLMES4 for additional information.

    FamFest, designed to bring neighbors, friends, parents and children closer together and re-establish bonds of love and unity as a community, will be held June 6-8 at the Attala County Coliseum. Sheila Murray is in charge of arrangements and said plans are to make the festival an annual event.
