All-day Holmes homecoming celebration planned

KOSCIUSKO — On Saturday, Sept. 29, Holmes Community College will be hosting its annual all-day Homecoming celebration on the Goodman Campus.

This year’s football game against Mississippi Delta Community College will begin at 4 p.m., with the presentation of the Homecoming Court and Crowning of the Queen at halftime.

The day’s events include an alumni softball game; baseball gathering; art show, band; vocal and performing arts presentations; pep rally and parade, to name a few.

The school will also be recognizing this year’s Distinguished Service Award and Alumnus of the Year recipients at a special ceremony. This year’s Distinguished Service Award recipient is Carroll County native and 1958 graduate Paul Shelton.

This year’s Alumnus of the Year is 1952 graduate Dr. Robert Gilliland, an Attala resident.

Also being recognized will the be the Homecoming queens from 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992 and 2002. The Sports Hall of Fame inductees will also be recognized: Ricky Joe Black, Robert Lynn Rose, Reginald “Reggie” Lamar Tiller and Marvin D. Taylor.

The following teams will also be recognized: 1932 Baseball team, 1942 Men's Basketball team, 1952 Men's Basketball team, 1992 Women's Basketball team, 2002 Men's Basketball team and the 2002 Football team.

    Helping Hands Mother’s Day luncheon fundraiser will be held May 10, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Williamsville Baptist Church. Tickets are $10. There will be second time around jewelry, devotional books, purses and a silent auction.
