Meeting to address PERS concerns

The Star-Herald

KOSCIUSKO — A special meeting for all Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) members and retirees will be held Friday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Attala County Library to discuss some legislative strategies.

All PERS members and retirees should be aware of the Senate Bill that has been drafted that would make drastic changes to the PERS retirement system, and would also give the Governor and Lieutenant Governor control of almost 50 percent of the Board of Trustees

An attempt was made last year, but due to extreme pressure from state employees, no action was taken.

This action is being taken as a part of the state legislators’ efforts to balance the state budget at the expense of current state employees and PERS retirees.

Carolyn Palmer, State PERS Director for District III, and Bill Lloyd, Past Executive Director of MAE, will speak on actions that need to be taken.

If you are a  member of PERS (state employees, all education personnel, elected officials, highway patrolmen, etc.) still active or retired; these changes will affect you. Plan to attend.
