Growing up, my Dad and I watched football – Mississippi State football and New Orleans Saints football.
And, now I am married to a life-long fan of both.
My husband, Paul, has been on pins and needles all season watching his beloved Saints.
When the NFC Championship game came down to on overtime field goal attempt, Paul was strangely quiet.
Later, he told me he was having a flashback to sometime in the early to mid-80s.
As he tells it, the Saints were playing the Atlanta Falcons. A win meant a first-time playoff birth for the Saints and it came down to a field goal.
The field goal was missed and so were the playoffs.
He said it was just replaying over and over in his head.
This time the Saints’ luck was far better.
And now to prepare for the Super Bowl.
Usually, we get together with some friends for an annual Super Bowl party but this year, Paul said it’s better that he just watch it with me at home.
We are gearing up for the day-long pre-game events and all that goes with it.
I remember the emotion and roar of the crowd when the Saints took the field in the Superdome for the first time since Katrina and the elation of winning NFC championship.
This Super Bowl is definitely one to watch for many, many reasons!
