COLUMN: No shoes on Thursday?!

KOSCIUSKO — Word on the street is Claude Gunter will be shoeless in his business attire on Thursday. Look for Jayne and Glenn to be shoeless too at Claude Julian's on the Square in Kosciusko.

They are going to be taking part in the “Day Without Shoes” campaign started by TOMS shoes.

They hope to spread awareness about how a simple pair of shoes can have an impact on a child’s life.

If you want to take part in the event, all you have to do is go barefoot for the day or just a portion of the day.

The cool thing about TOMS shoes is that when you buy a pair, they send a pair to a needy child.

Here’s hoping that Claude gets a pedicure before Thursday!

Style show

Speaking of some of my favorite locals – Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockcroft, Kosciusko-Attala Development Corporation’s Steve Zea and Greg Cooper will be modeling the latest fashions Thursday night at the Mary Ricks Thorton Cultural Center at 6:30 p.m. There are also some lovely ladies taking part in this event as well.

Make sure you get a ticket to help the Historical Society pay for the restoration of the Cultural Center’s windows.

If you can’t make it, we will have photos to share with you next week.

Oh my – the pollen

In the Delta, we have dust that whips up like small tornadoes and pesticides that will make you sick and sneeze.  I got a new lease on life when I lived in Starkville and Columbus – no allergies. Pontotoc wasn’t so bad and then we moved to Kosciusko.

I was driving to work, behind a school bus, Tuesday morning and there was so much pollen on the road the bus tires were kicking up small clouds of pollen.

The streets are covered in yellowish green and I am so ready for rain to wash it all away.
