Of cell phones and such

Remember some 15 years ago or longer, when your cell phone was in a big bag or you had to pull up the antenna to help with reception?

I do. I remember my large handheld Motorola phone with its huge battery and even bigger charger.

It was for emergencies only and it was tucked away in my glove compartment.

There was no Internet on phone and there wasn’t even texting. Teens today would die if they couldn’t text!

On Friday, I got a brand spanking new Blackberry Pearl Flip Phone and loving the color pink as I do, I got one in that very shade.

Its got unlimited data with texting, Internet and plenty of applications to download to use Facebook and Twitter.

So for those who follow me on Twitter or The Star-Herald on Facebook, get ready to hear a lot more from me!

Twitter works

Last week, I got three emails from Mississippi State Communication professors and alumni, thanking me for my column on Lora DeFore and it was a welcomed surprise! Frances McDavid, my former teacher, is following me on Twitter, read my column and passed it on.

At Relay for Life, I found that I wasn’t the only one influenced by Lora. Marsha Marquerdt said Lora helped her a lot as a communication student and helped her to find her way. It’s truly a small world!

Lora update

Lora, who continues to battle cancer, is teaching summer school at MSU and going to chemo! She’s quite a woman. She loves interaction with her students.

For all of you battling with cancer, I know you can find the inner strength to make the most of every day as she has.
