Nash Street Band, a regular performer at the annual Bluegrass/Country Gospel Concert, will be joined by two newcomers to the event scheduled for March 20 at the Attala County Coliseum.
The annual concert is sponsored by the Attala Historical Society. Proceeds from the sale of tickets will go for the maintenance of the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center.
Making their debut in Kosciusko for the evening’s concert will be Mountain Heart and the Jason Boone Band.
Mountain Heart is widely known throughout the music industry for continually redefining the boundaries of acoustic music. The band, or its members, have either won or been nominated for multiple Grammys, ACM, CMA and IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Awards. They have appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in excess of 100 times and have shared the stage with acts ranging from Montgomery Gentry, George Jones, Merle Haggard and Brad Paisley, to Alison Krauss, Tony Rice, Travis Tritt, LeAnn Rimes, and Patty Loveless.
Making up Mountain Heart are: Josh Shilling, singer/songwriter; Jim Van Cleve, fiddle; Barry Abernathy, banjo; Jason Moore, bass; Clay Jones, guitar; Aaron Ramsey mandolin.
The Jason Boone Band will feature the traditional sounds of bluegrass. The band competed at the 35th Annual Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America and placed eighth in the competition of more than 30 top bands around the U.S. and Canada. Their repertoire includes traditional bluegrass, country ballads and gospel songs.
Jason Boone, the namesake of the band, does the majority of the lead vocals. Don Robinson plays banjo; Lee Ely, mandolin; Jeff Boone plays fiddle; Steve “Speed’ Nowell, upright base.
Nash Street, well known in the area, has performed at all of the historical society’s annual concerts. The band was winner of $100,000 at the 26th Annual Colgate Country Showdown, held at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and the title of Best New Act in Country Music.
The group has played at the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ernest Tubb Record Shop’s Midnight Jamboree, CMA Music Fest and Tootsie’s in Nashville, and has opened for big named such as Rhonda Vincent, Cherryholmes, Marty Raybon, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Kellie Pickler, Gloriana, John Anderson, Chris Houng and Little Big Town.
Members of Nash Street are sisters Hannah Melby, Caroline Melby, Daniel Hare, Clay Lezon, and Ben Mathis, the newest member. Hannah is vocalist, fiddle player; Caroline, vocalist and mandolin player; Clay, vocalist and lead guitar; Ben, vocalist and guitar player.
The Melby sisters are the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brunt of Kosciusko.
