ETHEL —
Blue skies, sunshine, and summertime temperatures were the ingredients providing the perfect setting for activities of Ethel’s 30th annual May Day on Saturday.
A crowd mingled among the booths and food vendors set up along Main Street and the walking track area. Activities began on Friday night when pulled pork was sold at the Volunteer Fire Department.
At mid morning Saturday, festivities shifted to the pavilion where contestants lined up for competition seeking the title of Miss May Day.
Winning Miss May Day was Tiffany Humphrey with Breanna Jennings, first alternate, and Kayla Corr, second.
Named Pre Teen Miss May Day was Shelby Corr with Jordan Lackey, first alternate.
Taking the honor of Junior Miss Miss May Day was Lily Miller; Kaitlyn Wilkerson, first alternate, Danielle Hunt, second, and Whitney Horne, third.
Little Miss Miss May Day was Alexandria Boyette with Bailee Miller, first alternate.
Ava Bell claimed Tiny Miss Miss May Day with Jaycee Tindoll, first alternate.
Shannon Jennings, who served as emcee of the pageant, said plans are to possibly offer competition for Mr. May Day at next year’s event.
Food was offered from a variety of vendors along with arts and crafts at booths in the festival area. A number of inflatables offered entertainment for children.

May 16, 1963
The Redbud has been named as Kosciusko’s official tree and the rose as the official flower in a recent promotion of the Kosciusko Garden Club. The project was carried out by the garden club in connection with the Clean Up, Fix Up, Paint Up campaign now in progress. Among other trees suggested were magnolia, dogwood and pine. Running a close race with the rose was the iris, and the dahlia. -

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lacey have received notification from the South America Indian Mission that they have been accepted as missionaries. They have been assigned to the country of Bolivia where the mission has been working since 1926. Lacy is presently serving as the Director of Christian Education in the First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko. -

Dale McBride will be the new coach for McAdams High School for the coming 1963-64 season. He will replace Charles Porter who is leaving to accept the head coaching job at Noxapater, it was announced by Glen Cain, Superintendent of McAdams School. -
