SALLIS — A parade Saturday morning at 10 kicked off activities of the third annual Sallis Homecoming Festival held in the downtown area.

Leading the parade was the queen of the event, LeDeidra Gentrae Dinkins, followed by vintage cars, motorcycles, horse riders, golf carts and four wheelers. The Attala County Sheriff, the Sallis Fire Department also provided units for the parade.

Plaques were awarded to those responsible for providing electricity, maintenance of grounds and cleanup at the end of the day. They were Dwight Roberts, Barry Cain, and Supervisor Kary Ellington of beat four.

Throughout the day, vendors provided food, yard sales were in progress, and games were provided for children.

Founder of the Sallis Homecoming Festival was Elnora Clark. In charge of arrangements for the event

was a committee composed of Jackie Gladney, president, Clyde Perteet, vice president, Bobbie Joyce Smith, secretary, Mary Luckett, assistant secretary, James Greenwood, treasurer, along with Sarah Rick, Louise Levy, Sylvia Bentley, and Sally Parks.

Personnel from the Attala County Sheriff’s Department assisted in directing traffic through the town.
