KOSCIUSKO —
A book signing last Thursday afternoon at the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center launched the sale of copies of “From My Collections” compiled by Thomas Craft.
Proceeds will benefit the Kosciusko-Attala Historical Society.
The pictorial history features pictures collected by Craft over a period of years.
As Jo Ann Sanders of Kosciusko bought the first copy of the newly published booklet, the last copy of “Kosciusko-Attala History” was sold to Ellen Pettit. The book of history was published in 1976 and was coordinated by the late Frances Smythe Potts for the historical society. Mrs. Pettit was author of Chapter 11 of the book which covered the period, 1895-1905. Proceeds from that project also benefited the historical society.
At the Thursday signing, 125 copies were sold. Sales will continue at the Kosciusko Attala Development Development Corp. office, and at the Attala County Library. They may also be purchased for $20 through any member of the historical society or mail order by directing requests to P.O. Box 127, Kosciusko, MS 39090.
Craft said, “This book represents a lifetime photo collection of people, buildings, and events around Kosciusko and Attala County, a wonderful place in the world to me. Many of the photographs were taken by me and others came from anywhere and everywhere. However some of the photos were contributed and I have acknowledged those contributors, when possible. The dates, times, and places are identified as accurately as possible.”
The money derived through the book sale will benefit the Mary Ricks Thornton Cultural Center in the historical society’s continuing support of the facility. During recent years, the society has financed the restoration of two stained glass windows in the cultural center along with other projects. Plans are to continue the preservation of the stained glass windows in the historic building, according to a spokesman for the society.
