KOSCIUSKO — May 17, 1962

Kosy golf team members Roscoe Herod, Cem Morgan, Bobby Hardison, Bill McCandless, Jimmy Teasley, Harry Reynolds, Earl Bryant, Jimmy Hardin, and Jimmy Bailey accepted a trophy as team winner in the Choctaw Conference Golf tournament Saturday from team coach Jim Coleman. The foursome competing in the play were Bailey, Hardison, Bryant, and Herod.

George J. Thornton, prominent Kosciusko attorney, was one of two dedicatory speakers at ceremonies Wednesday afternoon at Holmes Junior College in Goodman. The occasion was the dedication of two new buildings completed during the current term and just occupied recently, Attala Hall and McMorrough Library. The dormitory was named “Attala Hall” in recognition of the fact that Attala County was the first among the counties to volunteer financial support a few years ago under the Holmes Junior College expanded program. A milage levy is made on Attala taxpayers that partially supports the operation of HJC.

Approximately 45 new jobs are expected to be created  with the proposed expansions of two Kosciusko industries. Interstate Industries, a wiring harness manufacturing firm located in the Kosciusko-Attala Industrial Park, and LuVel Dairy Products Inc., a long time Mississippi maker of ice cream and milk, announced plans this week to increase facilities. LuVel officials said they plan to initially hire 25 people when the expansion is completed and possibly double that number in the not too distant future. At Interstate, 15 to 20 jobs will be added to the current work force of approximately 70 persons, after the company enlarges its building, said Ron Zadroga, president of the company.

Members of the Ethel High School senior class were recognized for scholastic achievements. The students include Sandy Dees, Monica Clark, Lisa Martin, Lilia May, Lorie May, Barry Ware, Glenda Woods, Landress Lee, Theresa Miller, Ollie Kimbrough, Sonya Armstrong, Randy Palmertree, LaVance Kimbrough, Darren E. Rone, Tracy Huggins, Chris Gray and George Whitman.
