Marking the close of the summer reading program at the Attala County Library, 250 certificates are being awarded children who have read at least 16 books during the summer months, discloses Mrs. Paul tardy, librarian. The 250 children receiving the certificates, are enrolled in the first through sixth grades of the Kosciusko schools.

Cheering the Ethel Tigers during their game against Lexington were Margaret Parish, Wattine Frazier, Joyce Massey, Sandra Collins, Gloria Kyle and Sandra Wroten.

A large delegation of Attala County citizens will attend the annual meeting of the Natchez Trace Association to be held at Hinds Junior College, Raymond. The purpose of the annual meeting is to elect officers of the association, which has for many years worked diligently to influence state and federal authorities to get the Trace completed. Among those from Kosciusko who will attend include: Jones Woodward, J.S. Joseph, A.E. Atkinson, F.O. Oliver, A.H. Hodge, H. H. Ward, Walter Lee Ellis, Billy Leonard, Frank Gayden, Jim Clark, J.C. Love and Alton Massey.

Kosciusko’s homecoming queen and her court are Gayle Sills, junior maid; Betty Henry, freshman maid; Pam Parrott, queen; Ethel Johnson, senior maid; Betty Lou Rosamond, sophomore maid. Also members of the court are Rosemarie Joseph, crown bearer and Thomas Fenwick, who was the robe bearer.

Five members of Company “A”, 2nd Battle Group, 155th Infantry, Kosciusko’s National Guard Unit have reported to Natchez to assist in the “Operation Chlorine”. They are Edgar G. Braswell, Dennis A. Massey, Kermit R. Wooten, Jimmie E. Dees, and Thoris N. Mann. Company “A” recently returned from Oxford, where members served on guard duty during the crisis over the enrollment of James H. Meredith.

A group from the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tomorrow met with the Kosciusko City School Board and the Kosciusko-Attala Vocational Technical Center’s board of trustees this week to discuss the possibility of adding a diversified occupations course to the list of vocational options for high school students.

The vacant Sheller Globe building in Kosciusko has been sold to owners of a Michigan firm whose officials said they will use it to manufacture outdoor furniture. They said they expect to eventually hire 250 to 300 people. The plant will become a part of Jack Post Corp. which is headquartered in Buchanan, MI.

Robin Henry and Rhonda Brown were crowned 1987 homecoming queens for Kosciusko High School. The two KHS students became the first homecoming queens crowned at Kosciusko since 1967. Escorting Miss Henry was her father Jimmy Henry and escorting Miss Brown was James Bayne.

Ten new buses were added to the Kosciusko Separate School district’s fleet this week and Superintendent of Education A.D. McBeath said the new buses will add a “new dimension” to the busing system. The addition brings the total number of school buses to the Kosciusko district to 28 on the route and three on the inactive list.
