KOSCIUSKO —
On Saturday, February 2, 2013, the Kosciusko Junior High Cheerleaders hosted the “2013 Beauty Review” which was held at the KJHS Auditorium.
The first session started at 2 p.m., which featured girls from kindergarten to fifth grade. The second session started at 6 p.m. for girls in grades 6-12. There were five divisions and each division had a “Most Beautiful”, four Beauties, and a Ms. Photogenic.
The emcee for both sessions was Semone Olive of Kosciusko. Both sessions of the 2013 Beauty Review were judged by Emma Kate Avery, Lindsay-Claire Muse, Lauren Smith and Antoine Gates. The judges were treated to dinner catered by Frenchie’s.
The contestants for the K-1 division were Hallee Kay McBride, Julianna Tubby, Kelby Grace Burrell, Lily Daves, Rayann Sanders, Graycee Layne Rosamond, Baylee Nunn, Macie Collins, Ally Moore, Macie Barnett, Anna Loren Crosby, Akeelah Hunt, Heaven-Leigh Alston, Mary Kimble Price, SaraBeth Moore, Arabella McBride, Makynlee Dickerson, Chloe Huffman and Kellyn Coleman. Haley Olive, last year’s winner, crowned Macie Barnett as “Most Beautiful” with Anna Loren Crosby, Mary Kimble Price, Arabella McBride and Kellyn Coleman as Beauties. Anna Loren Crosby was named Ms. Photogenic for K-1 grade division.
The contestants for the 2nd - 3rd grade division were Ella Mabry, Campbell Claire Blaine, Zar’Kayla Olive, Anna Catherine Cheek, Karly Westbrook, Olivia Cockroft, Lizzie Kate Jones, Hannah Olive, Arden Reynolds, Janesha Harmon, D’Naylah Williams, Emma Crosby, Mary Patton Henderson, Maicee Coleman. Bailey Catherine Thompson, last year’s winner, crowned Mary Patton Henderson as “Most Beautiful” with Lizzie Kate Jones, Emma Crosby, Hannah Olive and Karly Westbrook as Beauties for the 2-3 grade division. Mary Patton Henderson was named Ms. Photogenic.
The end of the 2 p.m. session was drawing near with the final division with the girls in grades 4th-5th. The contestants in this division were Lacey Greenlee, Diamond Rayford, Emma Rush, AnnaLeigh Jones, Emmagail Kelley, Hayley Haffey, Britlon Grantham, Angel Woods, Ashlyn Davis, Kathryn Clare Schuler and A’Shuntis Jones. Mallory Ransom, last year’s winner, was unable to attend so Bailey Catherine Thompson crowned AnnaLeigh Jones as “Most Beautiful” with Emma Rush, Britlon Grantham, Angel Woods and Kathryn Clare Schuler as Beauties. AnnaLeigh Jones was named as Ms. Photogenic.
The 6-8 division started at 6 p.m. had 12 contestants competing for Most Beautiful. The contestants for this division were Aubriana McBride, Maygan Biggers, Sara Bailey Jones, Emily Keen, Destiny Roby, Madeline Frank, Tierra Olive, Shelby Burchfield, Ashlyn Lepard, Katlyn Stonestreet, Kansas Logan and Lexi Greenlee. Kara Rhodes, last year’s winner, crowned Madeline Frank as “Most Beautiful” with Aubrianna McBride, Sara Bailey Jones, Destiny Roby and Ashlyn Lepard as Beauties along with Madeline Frank as Ms. Photogenic.
The contestants for the 9-12 division were Abby Singletary, Shelby McDaniel, Lauryl Massey, Kaitlan Cobb, Bethanie Irving, Katie Medine, Ashlee Kate Blackwell and Kaylan Crosby. Meredith Thomas, last year’s winner, crowned Ashlee Kate Blackwell as “Most Beautiful” along with Abby Singletary, Lauryl Massey, Kaitlan Cobb and Kaylan Crosby, as Beauties along with Ashlee Kate Blackwell as Ms. Photogenic.

The Nation’s Capitol: Ethel High School students see sites in Washington, D.C.
Usually students spend spring break in activities totally foreign to education – not so with a group of Ethel High School students. Although they did not attend classes, ten EHS students feel they furthered their education during the five days of spring break spent in Washington D.C.

May 23, 1963
When Mary Ellen Scarborough steps across the stage of the Kosciusko High School auditorium to receive her diploma on Friday evening, she will be the third child of Rev. and Mrs. Ben C. Scarborough to finish Kosciusko High with a perfect attendance record. Benjy, who finished KHS in 1959, will be graduating from Mississippi College on June 2. Jack, who finished KHS in 1961, graduated from Holmes Junior College on May 19. All three have been active in student, church, and community affairs and have been honor roll and dean’s list students. -
Relay for Life raises funds
Attala County Relay for Life was held May 10 in the Attala County Coliseum due to threat of rain. The event raised approximately $60,0000. See the photos attached for more about the event.

Pioneer Day:Annual French Camp event provided activities for all ages
The historic district in French Camp, located adjacent to the Natchez Trace Parkway, was transformed into an area reminiscent of olden days.

Flashbacks
May 16, 1963
The Redbud has been named as Kosciusko’s official tree and the rose as the official flower in a recent promotion of the Kosciusko Garden Club. The project was carried out by the garden club in connection with the Clean Up, Fix Up, Paint Up campaign now in progress. Among other trees suggested were magnolia, dogwood and pine. Running a close race with the rose was the iris, and the dahlia. -

May 9, 1963
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lacey have received notification from the South America Indian Mission that they have been accepted as missionaries. They have been assigned to the country of Bolivia where the mission has been working since 1926. Lacy is presently serving as the Director of Christian Education in the First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko. -
Long Creek holds motivational rally for upcoming state testing
More than 200 students and parents filled the Long Creek Elementary Gym in Sallis on May 2 for a pep rally to energize students for the upcoming state test.

Alice Faye Roberts Leslie, 95 year-old Weatherford, TX resident, made a recent trip to her native Mississippi and visited briefly in Attala and Leake Counties with relatives and reminisced about days of her youth.
