Two new members and two promotions are being announced in the personnel of the Attala County Extension Service staff. W.M. Swoope, who has served here about four years as associate county agent, has been promoted to the position of assistant extension animal husbandman at Mississippi State University. Promoted to the position of associate county agent is Billy Walton. New assistant home demonstration agent, succeeding the former Kathryn Patridge, now Mrs. Charles Bell of Ethel, is Miss Charlotte Hogue of Skene.

Football practice will begin in Kosciusko Monday, Aug. 13, according to Sim Cooley, athletic director and head coach in Kosciusko High School, who adds that equipment will be issued Saturday, Aug. 13, at the high school gym.

Top agent of typewriter supplies of the New Orleans division Remington Rand distributors was the Star Printing Company of Kosciusko, which led other agents in quota performance by rating 298 per cent in sales as listed in the monthly pamphlet “New Orleans Mississippi River Typewriter Topics.” Credit went to the team of J.S. Evans and Glenn Sledge for attaining the “quota bustin” habit.

Graduated July 25 from the Junior Platoon Leaders class at the Marine Corps Schools in Quantico, Va., was Benjamin C. Scarborough Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. Scarborough of Kosciusko. He is attending Holmes Junior College in Goodman.

Plans are progressing for the annual Farm Bureau meeting which will be held Friday night, Aug. 19, at Central Mississippi Fairgrounds. A feature of the occasion will be a chicken fry, with the chicken served hot, browned to a turn, Southern style, in huge iron pots on the grounds. Eight hundred members and their families are expected to attend. Serving as president of the large organization is B.W. Tindoll of Carmack Community.

A successful season is being reported for summer recreation at Jason Niles Park here by Adrian McBeath, general supervisor, who reports that a total of 12,000 swimmers have made use of the city’s municipal pool since it opened the last of May.

Kosciusko governmental operations will cost just under $2 million in the next fiscal year. The mayor and board of aldermen accepted proposed budget figures at a Tuesday night meeting calling or revenues and expenditures of $1,984,500 for the spending year that begins on October 1.

A one-hour color film developing process business will open son in Kosciusko. It is located in Guntown Villa ge on Highway 35 north and is owned and operated by Lisa Boutwell and Doyle Goss.

The VFW softball team took first place in the 8-10 year old division of he Kosciusko Exchange Club Softball League with a 7-2 record. Members of the team are April Williamson, Terry Fox, Heather Tubby, Amy Loftin, Kelly Bailey, Angel Albin, Stephanie Frazier, Crista Bain, Suzanne Douglas, Brandi Hanson, Peggy Carter, Jamie Burkes. Coaches are Patty Tubby and Carolyn Russell.

Former Kosciusko resident, Capt. James Culpepper of Columbus AFB has been selected for one of the Air Force’s coveted assignments – Education with Industry. His assignment will be with Boeing Military Airplane Company of Wichita, Ks. The program is designed to give military officers a greater appreciation of industry’s operations by working side-by-side with their industrial counterparts.

Dr. Charles Frank Lacey, longtime physician practicing in Leake and Attala Counties, was honored during the weekend for his years of service at the Attala Nursing Center. He was presented a plaque by nursing center administrator, Mrs. Myrene Hughes, citing him for his 10 years as medical director and staff physician of the facility.
