KOSCIUSKO — Kosciusko Junior Auxiliary will celebrate its 40th year anniversary with an Ooh La La Paris theme on Saturday, February 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Attala County Coliseum. During the evening there will be a special time of recognition for all Charity Ball past kings and queens. Following the presentation of the royal court, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sims will be crowned the 2013 Kosciusko Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball King and Queen.

Roy and Peggy just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of three children, Michael, Marc and Pam. They are Paw Paw and Meme to 10 grandsons ranging in age from two years to 13 years.

Roy began his career in the retail grocery business during his last year of high school at Ethel. He became a “bag boy” in the Sunflower store now known as First Baptist Church’s Son Building. Realizing this would be his occupation for at least a few more years, he remained with Marvin Pickle and was trained in all of the divisions of the grocery business.

In 1965 he became the manager of his first grocery store in Hamburg, Arkansas, at the age of 21. He was the youngest manager in the history of Sunflower Food Stores. Roy has been instrumental in supporting several worthwhile charitable programs here in our community, Boy Scouts, Helping Hands, Cooling the Schools, Christmas projects for underprivileged children, a supporter and sponsor of little league baseball and soccer. He has been instrumental in many city and county school projects.

He is CEO of Potter and Sims Foods, Inc. and actively operates the day to day production of 13 retail grocery stores and also manages a working cattle ranch in Sallis, the Circle S Ranch. He is an avid golfer and enjoys making time for his family.

Peggy is a Life Member of Kosciusko Junior Auxiliary. During her term as an active member, she served as finance chairman, secretary, provisional trainer, president and she planned and served as chairman of the very first Charity Ball. She is still very active in some of JA’s current projects.

Some other achievements include, member of the Superintendent’s Kosciusko Schools Task Force, president of Kosciusko Foundation for Excellence in Education, president of Kosciusko Band Boosters, board member of the Chamber of Commerce, host of an eye on Kosciusko and coordinating the first Moomba event at the Natchez Trace Festival, board member of the Attala Historical Society. As chairman of “Cool the Schools”, she was instrumental in securing air conditioners for all the Kosciusko City Schools. She is a member of the Redbud Springs Garden Club, a Red Hatter, a published author and is a columnist for The Star-Herald. She is a member of Second Baptist Church where she has served as music minister for the past 11 years, teaches a Ladies Sunday School class, teaches a weekly Bible study, and is a member of the Ladies Ministries. Her hobbies include writing, painting, cooking, reading and enjoying time with her family.

Everyone is invited attend this year’s event. Dinner for the evening will be provided by Steve Sizemore and musical entertainment by Leith Loftin.

There will also be a Silent Auction and Draw Down, sponsored by Kosciusko Medical Clinic, and a chance to win $1,000. Tickets for the Draw Down are on sale now for $20 each. The Redbud has been named as Kosciusko’s official tree and the rose as the official flower in a recent promotion of the Kosciusko Garden Club. The project was carried out by the garden club in connection with the Clean Up, Fix Up, Paint Up campaign now in progress. Among other trees suggested were magnolia, dogwood and pine. Running a close race with the rose was the iris, and the dahlia.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lacey have received notification from the South America Indian Mission that they have been accepted as missionaries. They have been assigned to the country of Bolivia where the mission has been working since 1926. Lacy is presently serving as the Director of Christian Education in the First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko.
