KOSCIUSKO — July 7, 1960

Kosciusko Jaycees will sponsor a “Get Out the Vote” campaign Tuesday, using a number of novel and unusual ideas to make sure that Kosciusko citizens do not forget this important occasion. A plane will circle Kosciusko Tuesday at 9 a.m. dropping leaflets on which the information is printed that the Lawrin Company has approved Kosciusko, that the A&I board has approved the Lawrin company, and that it is now up to the Kosciusko voters to express their opinion in the bond election. In charge of the airplane project is W.S. Fowler.

Johnny W. Powell of Sallis, painter for Sullivant and Ramsey Inc. is one of the many workers busy with getting the Aponaug building ready for Kosciusko’s coming industry, the Lawrin Company. The company is scheduled to have all equipment moved in and ready for operation some time before September 1.

Patrice Pickle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pickle, was crowned Little Boys Queen at the Little Boys field Friday night. Crowning the new queen was Mary Meek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Meek, last year’s queen.

Kosciusko’s newest industry is “The Easy Fishing Company,” with J.R. Henry Jr., Dr. John Burge and Adrian McBeath as members of the firm. Specialty of the firm will be the handling of live minnows packaged in plastic bags and distributed over the state to bait dealers, service stations, and designated stores for sale to fishermen. First delivery of the packaged minnows to points over the state was made this week.

Bonnie Faye Huffman, bride-elect of Charles Poindexter, was honored with a miscellaneous shower at the recreation hall in McCool Saturday. Hostesses were Mrs. Victor Turner, Mrs. Felix Rainey, Mrs. Kirk Godfrey, Mrs. W.M. Blaine, Mrs. Billy Eubanks, Mrs. Marie Goss, Mrs. Laura Braswell and Mrs. Felix Rainey.

Weir High School science teacher Jo Anne Reid said her offer to ride a January space shuttle flight was well worth the trouble even though she did not get the one seat allotted to an educator. Mrs. Reid says she hopes the government will keep her name on the list for some future mission.

Citing an ambitious list of goals for the coming four years, new terms in office began at Kosciusko city hall this week with old faces. All six members of the mayor and board of aldermen won reelection campaigns this spring and began four year terms Tuesday night. Mayor Freddie George was expected to announce a program he and aldermen have agreed to make which ranges from industrial development to water drainage control. George, along with Aldermen James Bayne, Thomas Craft, Jack Jordan, H.L. Myricks and Billy Tolleson took oaths of office from Circuit Court Judge Clarence Morgan Jr.

Debra Wade of McCool has been promoted from reference librarian to your services librarian for the Mid-Mississippi Regional Library. Debbie Shaw has recently joined the library as reference inter-library loan librarian for the region.

Kosciusko and Attala County governments each picked up $20,000 in a settlement this week as a significant issue in a long running legal dispute was settled. Both governments won reimbursement of $1,900 they put up in the late 1960s as contributions toward a now defunct recreational lake on Long Creek, plus $1,000 toward a request for interest over the years.
