Day Trip: Columbus Pilgrimage underway
The 73rd annual pilgrimage is underway in Columbus with 14 antebellum homes and three churches open for tours.
The pilgrimage got underway in late March and will continue through Saturday with guided tours conducted by the homeowners and others assisting as hostesses. -

April 11, 1963
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted to hire two new policemen as replacements for Lenzo Chandler who quit to resume his trade of bricklaying, and veteran patrolman Claude J. Guess who will resign May 1 in accordance with a ruling requiring candidates for public office to give up their city jobs by that date. Guess is an announced candidate for sheriff of Attala County. Hired to replace them were Henry Kelly Tyler and John Eli Campbell. -
“His Last Days” performed for 28th year
The one-hour outdoor drama takes place on the grounds of First United Methodist Church in Kosciusko.

Attala Bakery owner Roger Jamison announced this week that he would begin distributing Ideal Bread in the Attala County area. Jamison is a long time resident of Kosciusko and at one time baked is own bread and cakes at the building he now occupies on West Adams Street.

Barnabas Lunch: Williamsville Baptist uses noon meal as a way of reaching out to others
There’s only one place in Attala County where you can buy a Barnabas lunch. The price is $4 and you can find it at Williamsville Baptist Church only on Wednesdays.

March 28, 1963
Dedication of the new exhibit building at Central Mississippi Fairgrounds in Kosciusko Tuesday afternoon was a feature of the first event held in the fine facility with a large group of persons from Attala County and from approximately 25 cities of the state, also Tennessee, and Alabama in attendance. -

You never get too old to play is a thought that comes frequently to the mind of Jerry Edwards as he makes an adjustment to his train set which is displayed at Doty’s Furniture, his place of employment. And, he feels fortunate that he has been able to take his hobby to work.

Hummingbird program attracts a crowd
“Here They Come: Attracting Hummingbirds to Your Garden” brought a large crowd to a recent program at the Attala County Library.

March 21, 1963
Sheriff W.T. Wasson and Deputy Billy Horne found a 38-barrel still in the woods in southeastern part of the county. It was estimated that the equipment was worth some $2,000. The bootleggers were caught before they could make a run of whiskey and the whole operation will be a dead loss to them. Still was capable of producing an estimated 20 gallons per hour or of producing $60 of revenue per hour. -
Cute as a Button: Buttons and Bows Pageant held at Greenlee Elementary
On February 2, the Ethel High School Beta Club held the annual Buttons and Bows Pageant in the Greenlee gymnasium. Winners can be seen in the photos attached.
