Ad valorem tax payments totaling $3,440,000 are currently being paid 129 municipalities and 45 counties in western Mississippi by Mississippi Power & Light Company. MP&L’s tax bill for 1962 in Attala County and Kosciusko will total $39,219.16, according to John Garner, manager. He presented a check for $33,657.32 to Sheriff W.T. Wasson, representing the company’s Attala county ad valorem taxes for the year 1962, Kosciusko’s ad valorem tax check received by Mayor Emmett Carr, amounted to $5,561.84. -

Attala County’s veteran Circuit Clerk C.H. (Cliff) McWhorter, has announced that he will not be a candidate for the office in the coming election. At the end of this year McWhorter will have completed 28 years, the longest period of continuous service of any public official of record in Attala County. -
‘From scratch:’ Kosciusko man considers making knives more play than work
Todd Davison says he never works a day, yet he spends the hours from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a shop in his back yard making knives.

Attala County voters approved the proposed $400,000 Garan plant industrial bond issue by a whopping vote of 3,638 for to only 25 against, in a special countywide election held Tuesday. It was the first countywide BAWI bond issue to be submitted to the voters of the county, and it was approved by 68.4 percent of the qualified voters. Only 51 percent was required by law to vote in the special election and two thirds of those voting were required to approve. -

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock for Dr. Charles A. Pender, 81, pioneer Attala County physician, who died Saturday after a short illness at the Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. The Rev. J.C. Christian, assisted by the Rev. Carl Wasson and Rev. E. L. Jackson officiated. -

The Joy of Christmas: Town of Ethel celebrates the Christmas season with parade
The Town of Ethel celebrated the “JOY of Christmas” Saturday evening with the Ethel High School Marching Band performing Christmas tunes at the town pavilion.
