Reader reflects on earthquakes

Well, what is it like to live through an earthquake in Mississippi. With all of the earthquakes that are occurring, there is a major concern that the new Madrid Fault may be next. Lets hope not!

However in 1811 and 1812 a series of earthquakes occurred in Tennessee and the Central Mississippi Valley. These earthquakes caused the Mississippi River to run backwards and formed Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee.

Needless to say there was major damage.

In 1967, my wife and I were attending The First Christian Church in Cleveland, Miss., when the pew we were sitting in began to sway. Of cause we thought the good Lord had called us home. After much thought, we concluded that the Soviet Union had bombed us, or the boiler in the basement exploded. We soon found out that an earthquake had occurred. We later learned that a motel in Greenville had a lot of damage a lot of broken glass.

Although this was not a major earthquake, it was an eye opening experience. Let’s be aware that we are living in very unsettling times. I want to say a special thanks to our beloved military, who are protecting us and coming to the aid of nations in very difficult times.

May God bless America!
