Candidates have been selected for the Little Boys Baseball Queen by the six teams of the Little Boys Baseball League who have named their favorites. Selected as team favorites are Sarah Jackson, Virginia Chilcutt, Carol Cheek, Nancy Bolt, Mary Ann Joseph and Charla Leonard.

L.D. Pullen is today observing his 30th anniversary as distributor of Gulf Oil Products in Attala and surrounding area.

Mr. and Mrs. Wiley C. Thornton Jr. are at home in Hattiesburg following their recent wedding at Springdale Baptist Church. The bride is the former Annie Laurie Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Y. Fleming. Mr. Thornton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Thornton of Madison.

Appointment of Dr. John M. Burge, Kosciusko dentist and civic leader, as dive chairman for the 1962 United Givers Fund campaign is being announced by a spokesman for the Board of Directors of the UGF organization. Named as co-chairman is Jack Brunt, manager of the Kosciusko Hosiery Mills, also active in civic affairs.

The Sallis Branch of the Merchants and Farmers Bank was robbed Tuesday night. Eight hundred twenty seven dollars and twenty cents was taken; mostly in small change and silver dollars. The main vault which houses the bulk of the bank’s money was not entered and from appearances no effort was made to enter. It is believed entrance was gained to the bank portion of the building by going through the post office. No loss is reported by the post office at this time.

In a setting of beauty and simplicity the wedding of Miss Melba Faye Burden and Mr. John Carlyn White was solemnized on Sunday afternoon, June 3, at 2 o’clock at the Baptist Church in French Camp.

With election time around the corner, the Fourth of July weekend will be full of political rallies and activities for area residents. Congressman G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery and former prisoner of war Bill Bailey, will be special guests this Saturday at the Stonestreet-Rone Post 1983, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary’s annual membership drive and fish fry.

Beginning Friday night, a “house” doctor will be on weekend duty at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital’s emergency room. The “house’ doctor will be there to see people who use the emergency room and don’t have a regular family doctor.

Over 200 patients and friends attended a reception honoring Dr. Paul Mink at the Attala Medical Clinic Tuesday. Mink, who officially retired Wednesday after 35 years in medicine, came to Kosciusko in 1956 and established the Attala Medical Clinic. Nurse Norma Branch, who has assisted Mink in deliveries for several years, said he has delivered 1,127 babies since he has been in Kosciusko.

Fire ant poison is available free from the county s long as supplies last, officials said this week. The county ordered nearly 2,900 pounds of the fire ant bait.

The McCool Baptist Church was the scene of the marriage of Miss Bridgette Dawn Hodges to mark Steven Hill at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21.

Commencement exercises of the Licensed Practical Nurse Program, Kosciusko Skill Center, division of Holmes Junior College, were held Friday at the Attala Baptist Center. Graduates are Lovie Martin, Angie Ware, Linda Warren, Carla Renfroe, Trenace Coffee, Vickie Harman, Millie Yowk. Shirley McMinn, Malinda Fleming, Jennifer Kern.
