I am seeking information on one Sammie Phillips who was in the first grade at Kosciusko Elementary School in 1948-1949. The Star-Herald edition dated March 31, 1949 lists him as one of the first grade students participating in the First Grade Operetta.
Before 1991, via phone a young lady contacted my mother's sister, Florence Phillips Rigby of Cleveland, MS, stating that she was a student at Memphis State University and was soon to be married. She was trying to locate Harry Phillips, only brother of my mother and her sister. She further stated that Harry Phillips, their brother, was her grandfather and father of her father, Sammie Phillips.
My aunt informed the caller that Harry Phillips had passed away and she denied knowing anything about her brother having a child. She requested that the young lady not call her again. The daughters of Florence Phillips heard her part of the conversation and sensed that their mother had been quite rude.
The five cousins of this Phillips line knew two wives of Harry Phillips, both long deceased. Neither bore him any children. We were especially close to his second wife. It is possible that he had another wife between the two whom we knew.
In hopes that someone who also descends from the maternal family of this Sam Phillips possibly lives in this area and will contact me or if Sammie Phillips is still living, they will inform him of this search and he will be in touch.
