KOSCIUSKO — Well Well Well, I write this letter in Jest!! My greatest fear was to get lost in Attala County. I had dream that came true earlier, but on Saturday, I took a quick trip to Holmes County via Durant.

I proceeded to Goodman on Hwy. 51, crossed the Big Black River on Hwy. 14 and I decided to turn left on road 4101. I guess that is Attala County Beat 4.

To my dismay I got lost. Now, I continued down the black-top road and ran into gravel. Hill folks call this a dirt road but in the Delta we call it a gravel road. So much for that!

I got lost, I got lost, I got lost trying to my way.*

I had many road signs to follow that started with four but I did not understand what the three other numbers stood for. I was lucky to find three people that wanted to help.

The first said cross the bridge and take the first right; the second said keep trucking or words to that effect; the third paused and scratched his head for a moment and said I would end up in Sallis.

By the way – I did. I must give credit where is due and what inspired me to write this letter and that is Attala County's famous Blues musician, Charlie Musselwhite's song, "Strange Land."*

Searching for info on George Christopher Pee
Some time ago I began to retrace my ancestors and discovered I am a great-great-grandson of George Christopher Pee. He was a first sergeant in the 4th Mississippi Infantry Co. B. He fought in the Civil War at the Battle of Fort Donoldson, was captured and went to Camp Morton in Indiana as a prisoner of war.
