The Star Herald
KOSCIUSKO —
Not being an expert on anything, I am writing this because of my concerns for Attala County and its citizens. The following are facts.
Districts change every 10 years causing voting districts to change because of changes in the population.
This causes the Attala County Beats to change causing the present road numbers to change. A road in Beat 3 may change to 4. I know this causes a problem for all government.
Our leadership have our safety and concerns at heart and work more than 24 hours a day for the citizens of Attala County. I know that our county officials refer to road names and not numbers when problems arise.
I know this is a major problem in these hard and trying times. My recommendation would be to modify or do away with the current road numbering system. I do know that road names are the answer as I have seen in Leake County. And the old excuse everyone will want to name their road will not hold water. We even have Possumneck Road. The least that could be done is to select the major roads in the county and give them the original or new names. I believe the Attala County Historical Society should become involved as well as other governments in the county. I do know that this is a major problem and is a national security concern as well a problem for tourism and just finding your way around the county or just trying to give as directions to someone.
