McADAMS —
My name is Katie Jamison and I am the former principal of McAdams High School. I purchased our local newspaper last week, and I was upset to read the article entitled, “ACSB gives funds to McAdams athletics.” First, there is no way that past debts depleted funds from the school’s activity fund. And secondly, the school was not in debt when Mr. Kennedy became principal during the 2010-2011 school year.
Concerning the $5,000 state championship rings, I did not give permission for those championship rings to be ordered. I was principal for two years, and I never saw an invoice for $5,000 that was used to purchase these rings. The first time I heard about this $5,000 bill was when Mr. Sevens called me last week and questioned me about this matter. I told him, “I know nothing about it, check with the coaches.” What would it look like for a 1A school principal, with less than 200 students enrolled, with limited funding, no athletic booster club, and no active PTO or PTA organization, purchase $5,000 worth of championship rings? It didn’t make sense then, and it still doesn’t make sense now.
Nothing should have been purchased for athletics, because tennis shoes, warm up suits, and uniforms had been purchased the year before. The boys basketball team had fundraisers and paid for their own warm up suits and the parents of the girls basketball team paid for the breast cancer awareness uniforms. (pink and white)
As principal, we did not spend what we did not have. We did fundraisers to provide our school with additional funds. The volleyball and softball teams did fundraisers to purchase their own uniforms, because we didn’t make a whole lot of money from these two sports. The baseball team was the only team that asked the board to buy their uniforms. I believe the board also purchased baseball uniforms for Ethel as well.
When I retired from McAdams High School there was approximately $45,000 left in both accounts combined. (activity and club account) Check the bank statements at the bank.
As for Mr. Kennedy inheriting a bunch of junk that’s not his, I say this, “the only thing Mr. Kennedy inherited, was a school that was in order, a school with enough funds to pay its bills, a school with improved test scores, a school with students under control, and a school with faculty and staff who worked hard to educate our children.”
I suggest before anyone gives their opinion about anything that happened at McAdams High School during the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010 school years, you need to talk to me first, otherwise, you need to keep your mouth closed.

Prayer for the return of sanity
Time and money, Mississippi seems to have it to blow. Since our state has been taken over by Tea Party Republicans nothing has been done in this state to improve the economy. These people have spent our time and our money on issues that are not within the realm of our state government.
