KOSCIUSKO —
Angela Miller has been named new director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Attala County with offices on East Adams Street in Kosciusko.
She assumed her duties on March 4 following the resignation of Pam Comfort who had held the position for several years.
She will direct activities of the volunteers who are registered with the program as they engage in services that benefit the community.
The program is funded through a Federal grant with the City of Kosciusko and Attala County adding funds to its operation. RSVP seeks to use volunteers’ life experiences and skills to answer some of the needs in the community.
Miller said she would continue to administer the program with the goal of adding volunteers.
She said the program currently has volunteers at Helping Hands, The Thrift Shop, Angel Food Ministry, the nursing homes and many other sites, all of which provide services.
Currently, schedule of volunteers at the museum and information center on the Natchez Trace Parkway is coordinated through the RSVP office. She stressed the need of more volunteers to work at the center.
A group of volunteers meets Monday and Thursday at the RSVP Center on East Adams Street for quilting and providing other sewing needs. Each year a quilt is made for raffle at the Natchez Trace Festival. The weekly quilting sessions allow for providing a quilt to families who have lost their homes due to fire. Lap throws, bibs are made, name labels stitched into clothing for nursing home residents and hospital patients is another of the sewing services volunteers provide.
RSVP assists the Lions Club each year by taking applications prior to the distribution of Christmas baskets. During the summer months, volunteers go to the Oprah Winfrey Boys & Girls Club and also to Lower Elementary School to read and tutor students.

Miller, the former Angela Miller, was previously employed as physicians liaison with Greenwood-Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. She came to Kosciusko following her marriage to Gwyn Miller, a native of Attala County.
