KOSCIUSKO —
While the projected 2011-2012 budget for the Kosciusko City School District will show an increase of $2.7M if approved as is by the City School Board this Monday at noon, there will not be a need for a local tax increase.
"There will not be a tax increase or anything like that," said Kosciusko Superintendent of Schools Tony McGee. "We feel good about the budget and expect it to be approved on Monday."
A public hearing was held last Thursday before the school board meeting and nobody from the public appeared to ask any questions about the proposed budget, which is set for $30,472,580.87. The 2010-2011 budget was $27,743,467.36.
The total budgeted income is the same amount as the proposed budget, of which $4.4M (14.49 percent) will be for local funds. Of that amount, $3.78M will be derived from ad valorem taxes. Almost $10.5M of the budget will come from state funds, with nearly 97 percent of that coming from MAEP (Mississippi Adequate Education Program) Funds.
Almost one third of the expected expenditures in the budget ($9.8M) will go toward salaries, with $2.67M going toward operation and maintenance of the plant.
Following the hearing the monthly board meeting was held during which Dewayne Cade was approved as part-time transportation director effective July 18.
