KOSCIUSKO —
While discussing possible financial consulting services, Attala County Supervisors Troy Hodges said the county hoped to break ground on the jail in March or April.
The building of a new correctional facility has been on in the works for the Attala County Board of Supervisors for some time in order to continue housing state inmates and due to the age of the current facility. It is estimated to cost $3.8 million.
During the regular meeting Monday, the supervisors heard from Demery Grubbs with Governmental Consultants, Inc. about the financial consulting services offered by his company.
The supervisors were presented a portfolio of work on various projects the company had done.
Board president Kary Ellington said they had “first-hand” experience with Grubbs and were pleased with the work they had done on the Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital project.
Land for the jail has been purchased on West Jefferson Street near the county maintenance shop and a bid opening initial phase of earthwork will be Monday.
Plans for the jail include housing of approximately 65 inmates and offices for the Attala County Sheriff’s Department.
The board also approved the claims docket and to pay the workers’ compensation quarterly premium.
They approved a lease purchase agreement for defibrillators for MedStat. A grant pays for the equipment.
Travel for the election commissioners was approved. They are going for required training.
Also, the supervisors approved to advertise for the county depository for 2013.
