KOSCIUSKO —
An Ethel man sits in the Attala County Jail Monday charged with rape.
Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail said after receiving a call from Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital, members of the Attala County Sheriff’s Department investigated the sexual assault.
As a result of their investigation, they were led to arrest and charge L.A. Barksdale, 49, with the rape of a 13-year-old female on Sunday.
Bond has been set at $200,000.
Other incidents
–Verne Hampton reported vandalism and appliances missing from her home on Highway 14 West in Sallis Friday.
Nail said $5,000 worth of items were taken and they do have a suspect in the case.
–Jerica Thompson was arrested for possession of stolen property on Monday by ACSD Investigator Randy Blakley.
–The ACSD along with the State Fire Marshal are investigating the attempted arson of Sugar Creek Grocery on Highway 35 North. The incident was reported on Friday.
Nail said no damage was done to the building.

– Tiffany Tierra Fletcher, 20, was arrested for first offense shoplifting on M.L.K. Drive by Capt. Herbert Dew. -
City considers using service to find retailers
With the current economy and the merger of Merchants and Farmers Bank and Renasant Bank, Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft presented the idea of hiring a firm to aid in the recruitment of retailers during the board of aldermen meeting at city hall May 7.
