KOSCIUSKO —
As the school year quickly approaches, the Attala County School Board approved remaining open positions of teachers and staff during a special called meeting on July 17.
Coaching and teaching vacancies at McAdams High School were filled by Carl Hawthorn, who replaces basketball coach Joe Garrett, and Kenneth Nelson, who will take the reigns of the football program. Garrett took a position in Tupelo and Ras Bayles left to take a position at Terry High School.
Miranda Weatherby is filling the ETV Distance Learning Lab position at McAdams.
Elsewhere in the county, Angie Cole was hired as a teacher at Long Creek Elementary and Joey Hanna as a cafeteria worker at Greenlee Elementary School.
Work days were extended for counselors Jenny Wood, Velvet Adock, Denise Canada to 200 days and Thelma Carr to 195 days. Kosciusko –Attala Career and Technical Center staff: Tracy Burnley, Leah Trehern, Martha Reeves, Amy Price, Betty Bermond and Melanie Myrick will be on 195-day contracts while Kenneth Georgia, Trey Culpepper, Gerald Simmons and John Cox will be on 200-day contracts. A teacher is on 187-day contract.
A passenger van was purchased for the vo-tech. Superintendent Bryan Weaver said it will be used for staff to attend trainings.
The final draft of the Attala County Special Education Application was approved as well as payment to Mayrant and Associates for construction on the Ethel field house. A pay scale was approved for maintenance, assistant maintenance and mechanics in the district.
The next school board meeting will be held on Monday, August 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the upstairs board room of the Federal Programs office.

Students at Koscusko Lower Elementary enjoyed Field Day activities May 17 on the school’s playground. Activities included: three-leg race, basketball toss, hula-hooping, playing on the playground equipment, and other relay-type activities.

The closing of the road that runs through McAdams High School and the building of another road has been discussed by the Attala County School Board for awhile now.

Ride of Silence held in Kosciusko
Cyclists gathered in Downtown Kosciusko May 15 to take part in the National Ride of Silence. The mission of the world wide ride is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.
