A special treat is in store for fans of Nash Street attending the annual Bluegrass/Country Gospel Concert on Saturday, March 20, at the Attala County Coliseum.
The band has chosen the Kosciusko concert to release their latest CD, “Between Hope and Heartache.” The album, which has been in the works since late 2009, contains music that artfully displays Nash Street’s new and unique twist on the grassroots country genre.
“We’ve put in so much time and effort into writing, arranging, and perfecting these songs, and we couldn’t be any prouder of the outcome. You’re sure to love our new stuff, and we can’t wait to share it with you,” said Clay Lezon, a member of the group.
The Starkville-based band has dedicated their musical lives to bridging the gap between country and bluegrass music. The band utilizes the inspiration and influences of Chris Thile, The Eagles, Ricky Skaggs, Nickel Creek, and Allison Krauss as a pleasant compliment to the soulful melodies of Mississippi and the leisurely rhythm of southern life. In so doing, the quintet provides a hybrid genre of music which is being hailed as “grassroots country”.
Members of Nash Street are Hannah Melby, Caroline Melby, Daniel Hare, Clay Lezon and Ben Mathis.
Since January 2008 when the band won the title of “Best New Act in Country Music”, Nash Street has been promoting their music all over the eastern half of the United States.
This year’s concert will be headlined by Mountain Heart, the band that has been revolutionizing the way acoustic music can be presented and played. They have appeared on the Grand Ole Opry stage more than 100 times and have shared the stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Montgomery Gentry, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss, Tony Rice, Travis Tritt, Yonder Mountain Stringband, LeAnn Rimes and Patty Loveless.
Also performing will be the traditional bluegrass group the Jason Boone Band, made up of musicians with over 100 years of combined musical experience. Formed in the fall of 2004, the band has evolved from the imaginations of two of the members, Jason Boone and Don Robinson to a well-oiled machine of strong vocals, hard driving picking, super charged stage performances, quality recordings and creative songwriting. Their repertoire moves seamlessly from traditional bluegrass with a contemporary slant to country ballads and then to heart-lifting gospel songs.
The March 20 concert will begin in the Attala County Coliseum at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door and $12 if purchased in advance. They may be purchased at the Kosciusko-Attala Development Corp., 289-2981 or Judi Bell, 289-4761. The concert is sponsored by the Attala Historical Society.
