KOSCIUSKO —
The Help Desk in Kosciusko is among winners from 12 states in the National Wisconsin Cheeseburger Contest.
Shay Poole, a Kosciusko native, is credited for creating the winning Bohemian Cheeseburger which is served daily at the Help Desk on the east side of the courthouse square.
Winners were selected based on creativity, originality, innovative cooking techniques, use of current industry trends and the inclusion of Wisconsin cheese.
Not giving away all his burger making secrets, Poole shared that he makes his batter fry, uses Provolone cheese, a Ciabatta bun, and a secret sauce.
He said he heard about the contest through a U.S. Foods representative who suggested he enter.
Poole said his interest in restaurant work dates to his college days when he worked at the Ajax Diner in Oxford. He has been associated with the Help Desk for more than a year.
For his winning, Poole has been given an all expenses paid trip to Wisconsin for a tour of a Wisconsin cheese manufacturing plant, with hands on cheese training including beverage and culinary pairings with cheese.
