KOSCIUSKO —
After the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Kosciusko City Schools Superintendent Tony McGee said there is a sense of “heightened awareness” throughout the district.
During the Monday night meeting of the KCS board meeting, McGee told the board that administrators have reviewed procedures that were already in place.
He also said he is looking into intercom systems and key pad entrances at the schools.
Also, the schools no longer allow parents to go to the classrooms. They must check into the office and wait for their child there.
The board approved the following:
–Minutes from the December meeting.
–Luke Ratcliff as the junior high assistant band director for the remainder of the school year.
–Natasha Wilson as a custodian.
–Amend the contract with J H & H Architects for projects on the football field, bathrooms at Kosciusko Middle Elementary and roof repairs at the alternative school and Kosciusko Upper Elementary.
–A three-month extension with the Forestry Commission on 16th Section Land due to unfavorable market conditions and weather conditions.
–December financials.
–Travel for Peggie Breazeale, Lavis Burchfield and Sandy McBride to attend MASBO conference in Jackson.
–Travel for Presley Tate and Sandy McBride to attend Title 1 and Federal Programs conference in Oxford.
–Travel for Pacey Regan and Misty Holder to attend Spring District Test Coordinator’s Training in Pearl.
–Travel for Jerrelyn Jackson, Cassandra Fulton, Sandra Shivers, Leigh Rodgers, Courtney McAdams and Misty Holder to attend Tier 2 training for school wide positive behavior in Flowood.
–Travel for Jackson and Holder to attend education interview day at Mississippi State University in April.
–Travel for the powerlifting, junior high and high school spring football games and track.
–Travel for Jackson, Lee Doty and Shane Rodgers to attend Leadership in Excellence in Mathematics Institute for Principals in Meridian.
–Travel for KUE PBIS team to take students with exemplary behavior on a bowling trip to Starkville.
–Travel for Kosciusko Junior High superintendent’s list students to tour the MSU campus and go bowling.
