Children visiting the Kosciusko Splash Pad at Jason Niles Park this summer will have to pay a small fee to cool off in the heat.
The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen adopted the fees for individuals and for parties of 30 or less during the January 15 meeting at City Hall.
Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft said that he and city parks and recreation director Todd Ables fashioned the regulations after other established splash pads.
“We know this will be a work in progress,” Cockroft said. “This could be changed the first board meeting in May. This is just what we came up.”
The splash pad, which officially opened September 21, is for children ages 12 and under.
The designated area with water springing upward from portals in the concrete area, cost approximately $150,000. Monies came from a bond issue for city park improvements.
The splash pad will be open during the summer months.
Days and times of operation are: Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for $2 and 1 to 4 p.m. for $3 and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. for $4.
The pad will be closed on Mondays.
Seasonal passes can be purchased for $30 for 20 visits.
“We felt like it would be better to charge by the hour” instead of a flat rate, Ables said.
Private rentals are available from May 1 until Memorial Day and from Labor Day until October 1 for private rental.
A $25 deposit is required to reserve the pad and is refundable if there is no damage and all trash is removed.
Rental times are: Monday through Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. for $50 and Friday and Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. for $75.
Alderman Tim Kyle said the rental fee was “extremely reasonable” in comparisons with inflatable rentals.
A rental for groups of 30 or less includes: use of the Splash Pad for your group and use of picnic shelters and outside restrooms
Alcohol is prohibited and no refunds will be issued unless cancelled by the parks and recreation or due to inclement weather.
