ACSD: Scams, looking for the wanted and arrests

KOSCIUSKO — The Attala County Sheriff's Department urges residents to not give personal information over the phone and do not respond to suspicious mail or email.

Several scams have surfaced and have mainly been targeting the elderly in the area.



Looking for a car

Information is being sought in a hit-and-run accident that occurred at Hannah Heights Apartments in Ethel January 19.

The ACSD is looking for a tan Ford Taurus with heavy rear damage.



Man still wanted

on charges

Jeremie Edwards, a 27-year-old black male with brown eyes, 5’7 tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds is wanted by the ACSD on two  counts of sale of cocaine.

Edwards last known residence was in Ethel.

Charges

During a home visit January 10 by the ACSD and the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Nicholas Steen was charged with possession of stolen property and Elizabeth Steen was charged with a parole violation. Both were also charged with possession of liquor and possession of marijuana.

Nicholas is on $10,000 bond while Elizabeth remains in the Attala County Jail.

Other arrests include:

– On January 15, Dennis Taylor Dempsey was apprehended at his mother’s home in McCool for a November aggravated assault. He is out on a $10,000 bond.

–Also on January 15, William Blake Dempsey, who was found in Choctaw County, was also charged with simple assault and MDOC warrant. He remains in jail.

–On January 18, Cary Dotson was charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle at the intersection of Highway 35 and Attala County Road 3034 after a traffic stop by deputy Hugh Curry.

–On January 19, Landrew Huffman was charged with expired driver’s license and no insurance.
