Star-Herald takes home ad awards

CNHI

KOSCIUSKO — Star-Herald General Manager Cindi Compton garnered four advertising awards during the Mississippi Press Association’s 2012 Better Newspaper Advertising Division luncheon held Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn/King Edward Hotel in Jackson.

The subscription advertisement featuring a beagle with large floppy ears saying “Did I hear right?” took first place against all weekly publications for Best Circulation House Ad.

Judges commented: “The dog is adorable! The headline goes along with the ad perfectly. For a smaller ad it has a lot of punch.”

“Anytime you can be recognized by your colleagues, it is a great honor,” Compton said.

Also against all weeklies, Compton won third place for best Advertising House Ad for “This Spot.”

The advertisement features dalmations and promotes classified ads in the newspaper.

Competing in the Weekly B Division against those with the circulation of up to 4,000, Compton took two more third place awards.

They are: Best Institutional Ad for a full-page ad featuring Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital during their expansion and addition. and Best Black and White Ad for Attala Co-op’s Father’s Day ad.

The awards luncheon concluded MPA Mid-Winter Conference for advertising professionals.
