Presbyterian Day School accredited by MAIS

KOSCIUSKO — Presbyterian Day School in Kosciusko was approved recently for accreditation and membership by the Executive Committee of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS).

The MAIS accredits 114 member schools that serve approximately 38,000 students in private/independent schools, the majority which are located in Mississippi. Services provided by the association include accreditation, teacher certification, oversight of athletics and activities, academic competitions, and teacher association.

This final approval by the MAIS Executive Committee represents an accreditation process that began over two years ago.

“Presbyterian Day School in Kosciusko is one of the first member schools to be accredited under a more stringent approval process adopted by the MAIS Accrediting Commission in 2009,” said Margaret Rogers, MAIS Associate Director of Instruction. “Applying schools must be in compliance with every single accreditation and teacher certification standard in order for the process to move forward,” Rogers concluded.

Becoming accredited by the MAIS will provide opportunities for students to participate in academic competitions, spelling bees, art, and achievement tests that reflect local and national percentile comparisons.

Students will also have opportunities to compete in a structured athletic environment. Teachers will be eligible for professional participation in District and Annual Teachers’ Meetings, Teacher of the Year honors, scholarship opportunities, and summer workshops and seminars.

David Derrick, MAIS Executive Director said, “It is exciting to see a new member school with the quality of instruction, faculty, and board leadership that is in place at Presbyterian Day School, Kosciusko. The board and administration have worked extremely hard to accomplish compliance with the standards. Completing the long arduous process of accreditation validates the school’s commitment to providing a quality education for their students in safe and nurturing environment. We are very pleased to have them as our newest member school.”
