KOSCIUSKO —
Upstairs at Helping Hands Ministries, off of Youth Center Road, there have been little elves at work in Santa’s workshop.
One of those elves is Linda Compton.
Compton has overseen the toy drive for the last four years and helps to screen eligible families as well as organize and wrap gifts with assistance from other HH volunteers.
Compton said this year there will be 134 families receiving Christmas presents for 267 children.
On Tuesday, toys were distributed to the chosen families with the help of Presbyterian Day School students and others.
HH Director Pat Rice said Helping Hands Angel Tree had been set up and local groups had taken up donations and toys at Wal-Mart.
A tradition that has spanned more than 25 years, Rice said it wouldn’t be possible without the community’s support year in and out and the countless time of volunteers.
Not only are gifts sorted by age and sex of the children but also wrapped for Christmas.

Cyclists gathered in Downtown Kosciusko May 15 to take part in the National Ride of Silence. The mission of the world wide ride is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.
