KOSCIUSKO —
After an October break in at Greenlee Elementary School, Attala County Schools Superintendent Bryan Weaver presented a plan to install security cameras at the two high schools and two elementary schools during the November school board meeting.
Weaver said he didn’t know how long gas had been taken from Greenlee but there was a “trail of dead gas where they were taking out gas.”
“The gas is gone from there (Greenlee),” Weaver said. “We aren’t putting anymore gas up there. We have one gas burner there and we fill it up at Ethel.”
Weaver explained that at least two break-ins occurred.
“They had a lock on the gate and it was stolen the first night they went in,” he said. “They cut that one and got a key made. They went into the gym and cut the latch on the gym door.”
School board members questioned if it was an inside job. Weaver said he didn’t believe that it was and that locks had been changed since the break-in.
“We had (Greenlee Harvest Carnival ) auction stuff in a back room,” Weaver said. “First night, a flashlight was taken; second night – a case of oil and gas. We figured they needed a tune up.”
“We put cameras and everything in there to try and catch them. They never came back in there,” he said.
Both, gifted classes and the library, were doing fundraisers.
“They busted out both those windows and went into those rooms but nothing was taken,” he said.
After presenting several plans to the boards, they agreed that allotting $16,000 for a security system and having it set up with the assistance of county employee James Jones would be best.
Every school would get 16 cameras with a monitor and DRV recorder.
