KOSCIUSKO —
Patrick Adams and Jessica Reynolds of Kosciusko each picked up medals in the State Games of Mississippi Jr. Tennis Tournament held in Meridian June 11-13.
Patrick Adams took the silver medal in the Boys' 16-under competition, while Jessica Reynolds took the Bronze in the Girls' 16-under.
Sixty-Seven players, including competitors from Tennessee, competed in the girls and boys divisions ages 10-18. Tennessee players were able to compete since that state did not host State Games competition this year.

All-Star event
Two local athletes will be taking part in the Mississippi Association of Coaches softball all-star games set for this coming weekend. Kosciusko pitcher Allison Ray will play for the North in the 4A/5A/6A Fast-Pitch game, while Ackerman's Erin Chandler will represent the North in the 1A/2A/3A Fast-Pitch contest.
The two-day event, which is being hosted by Newton County High School in Decatur, features two slow-pitch games and two-fast pitch games. The teams are divided by classifications as well as by North and South, with regions 1-4 comprising the North and 5-8 the South.
The slow-pitch games are set for 5:30 and 8 p.m. on Friday, June 18, while the fast-pitch games are set for the next day. The 1A/2A/3A match-up begins at 10 a.m. with the 4A/5A/6A teams meeting at 2:30 p.m.

hoops coaches
Central Holmes Christian School will have two new varsity basketball coaches when the 2010-2011 season tips off.
Nikki Meeks, who worked with the junior high team last season, will coach the Lady Trojans varsity team, while Thad Killebrew will coach the boys varsity team.
David Lloyd Jr., the athletic director, will continue to coach varsity football and baseball and junior high football.
Furr headed
to USM
Ackerman High School standout Andrew Furr will be part of the University of Southern Mississippi baseball team in 2011.
Furr hit .545 as a senior for the Indians, driving in 28 runs in 25 games. The left-handed hitter is slated to play the outfield for the Golden Eagles, after playing both in the field and pitching for the Indians.
He was one of the key cogs in Ackerman's run to the MHSAA Class 2A State Baseball Championship in 2009 and also quarterbacked the football team to the title game last fall.
