Woman of the Year nominations sought

KOSCIUSKO — The newspaper will recognize Central Mississippi’s Woman of the Year in a special “Working Women” edition coming at the end of September.

Last year’s winner, the late Adrienne Wamble was remembered by her friends and co-workers after many nominations for her commitment to her family, faith and community.

If you know someone who deserves this recognition, send us her name and include a brief explanation of the reasons behind your choice. Include your name and phone number.

The deadline to submit a Woman of the Year nomination to The Star-Herald office is Friday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m.

    With the recent announcement of Holmes Community College moving into the proposed site of the Kosciusko-Attala County Technology, Training and Jobs Center, Steve Russell with North Mississippi Development District  was granted to “de-obligate” the grant funding awarded to the business incubator portion of the project on Monday by the Attala County Board of Supervisors.

  • Barber out on bond after reduction denied

    One man accused in the shooting death  of Cedric M. Sharkey, 24, of Sallis, is out on bond, while the other remains behind bars in the Attala County Jail after a preliminary hearing was held on Wednesday, February 1, in Attala County Justice Court.

    Students from Kosciusko Lower Elementary will soon be hitting the radio airwaves with SmokeFree Mississippi spokesperson and radio/TV personality Paul Ott.
    They recorded, along with several students from the Jackson-area, at the SmokeFree Mississippi press conference at the State Capitol on Jan. 25 in Jackson. The song, “Smoke Free Me,” talks of the pitfalls of second-hand smoke and its effects.
