Cell phone policy revised by county school board

By Leslie N. Dees

Students caught with their cell phone at school, will have to say “bye bye” to the handheld gadget for a little while. Cell phone usage is prohibited on school grounds during school hours.

The Attala County School Board voted to amend the current policy from $25 return fee to a 45-day hold or the end of the school semester, which ever is longer.

A recent Attorney General’s ruling no longer allows the school district to charge for the return of personal property.

The board approved the following items

– Meeting minutes from Aug. 3, Aug. 17 and Aug. 21.

– Accept LaCharles Lewis as a student at McAdams High School. He had previously attended county schools and will pay tuition.

– Consent agenda – travel, bus easements for Lauren Sanders, Mevlyn Hunt, Arthur Brown, Larry Burchfield, Ardys Winters, James Dotson, Ernest Dotson, Jessie Winters, Ellen Alston and Arlis Woods, disposal of equipment, and advertise and remove school buses from fixed assets.

– Financials – claims and activity and club accounts.

– For Greenlee’s pre-kindergarten classes to travel to Boyd-Nichols Pumpkin Patch for a field trip as well as a trip for the Kosciusko-Attala Vocational and Training Center.

– Personnel – approve McAdams coaching supplements; supplemental pay for district reading coordinator Velvet Adcock; substitute list, Angela Hannah as a Greenlee cafeteria employee; Denise Dinkins as an ETV tech at McAdams; and Pay Buffy Rone $280 for Credit Recovery.

– Rehire school board attorney Mark Burton

– Bid by Dixie Roofing for repair work at McAdams High School and Ethel High School.

– Bid of $800 for two houses to be removed off of McAdams property. Burton will be drawing up an agreement with stipulations.

– Title I Part A, ARRA Stimulus Project
