UPDATED STORY -- Holmes beats Coahoma

GOODMAN — The Holmes Community College Bulldogs picked up their first win and first division win of the season here Thursday night over the Coahoma Community College Tigers, 30-14.

With the win, the Bulldogs went to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the North Division. The Bulldogs travel to Northeast Mississippi Community College for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday. The game can be heard on 101.1 FM and 103.9 FM and on breezynews.com.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal by Jonathan Smith.

Holmes increased the lead to 10-0 with 12:55 left in the second quarter when Dex Hopkins found David Hampton, who sprinted in from 48 yards out. Smith's kick was good.

Coahoma answered the Bulldog score with one of their own as Hollis Moore II pulled in a nine-yard touchdown pass from Garrick Jones with 7:37 left in the first half. Reed Gallagher's kick was good making the score 10-7.

Late in the third quarter, the Bulldogs increased the score to 17-7 as Hopkins again found Hampton, this time from 13 yards out. Smith's kick was good with 1:27 left in the third.

Coahoma pulled to within three when Nico Jones stripped a Bulldog ball carrier and scored from 35 yards out. Gallagher's kick was good with 11:12 left in the game.

The Bulldogs then scored twice in a three minute span. The first score came when Hopkins found Simon Collier on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Collier caught a ricochet from fellow Bulldog Hampton and several Tiger defenders. The extra point was blocked making the score 23-14 with 3:11 left in the game.

The other score came after the Bulldogs' Pat Williams recovered a Tiger fumble deep in Tiger territory. Jamarcus Jackson later scored from a yard out with :58.7 left in the game. Smith's kick was good.

Hopkins finished 75 yards rushing on 19 carries, and he threw for 126 yards and was 10-of-22 with three touchdowns and one interception. Hampton had four catches for 84 yards.
