Concerns brought to supervisors

KOSCIUSKO — The Attala County Board of Supervisors heard from two residents during their September 4 meeting.

Brenda Harmon Brown sought answers about a public defender.

She asked the board about the salary, who hired the defender and who was his supervisor.

The supervisors told they appointed the defenders and they had a set salary.

Brown said she would return to address the board again.

Rosalind Jordan and Richard Carter serve as public defenders for Attala County.

Wendy Walters addressed the board, seeking answers to hours of the Veterans Services Office.

Walters had been seeking help on a Friday afternoon and the office was closed.

The office is made up of a veterans affairs officer and a secretary.

The supervisors agreed to talk with Veterans Affairs officer Melvin Gibson and address the matter.

The board approved the following items:

–Claims docket

–Gardner Engineering payments in the amount of $13,965.65 and $23,884.81.

–Destruction of old vehicle tags

–Advertise for heart monitor for the ambulance service.

–Fire alarm service for 2012-2013 for the Department of Human Services.

–Re-issue a warrant on land redemption fund in the amount of $81.14.
