KOSCIUSKO —
Two Attala County men have been charged with murder following the Saturday afternoon shooting death of Cedric Montae Sharkey, 24, of Sallis.
According to Sheriff William Lee, Barry Ware, 42, and Frankie Barber, 52, both white males, were taken into custody following the incident.
Lee said the shooting stemmed from an altercation when Sharkey was accused of taking scrap metal from Barber’s property. Barber was told by a caller that a car resembling Sharkey’s had been seen at his property.
Following the report, Barber and Ware went to the house where Sharkey was and confronted him.
The three agreed to go to the Attala County Sheriff’s Department to talk. En route, Sharkey apparently changed his mind and went in a different direction.
Barber and Ware gave chase to Sharkey driving a 2002 white Mercury Marque. He wrecked the car on Attala Road 4106, left the vehicle, and fled into the woods. Barber and Ware chased him on foot and shots were fired.
Lee said upon Chief Deputy Tim Nail’s arrival on the scene, Sharkey’s body was found with a shot in the chest area. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Sam Bell.
A weapon was found on the scene, but there’s no knowledge that Sharkey owned the weapon, the sheriff said.
He also said there was another person with Barber and Ware but he was not charged as he never left the vehicle in which they gave chase.
n
Other reports by Sheriff Lee included Christy Fletcher being charged on Jan. 8 with selling beer on Sunday at Easy Stop on Highway 35 south.
On Dec. 31, Investigator Randy Blakely arrested Ashley McKee following a report of burglary by Mark Lindsay, a resident of Highway 35. Items and money were reported taken from the home and according to reports when McKee was arrested he was wearing a necklace taken from the house. Lee said some of the items have been found and returned.
