KOSCIUSKO —
The City of Kosciusko will observe Halloween on the actual holiday – Wednesday, October 31.
The Star-Herald’s 23rd Annual Safety Parade will take place Wednesday on the Downtown Square in Kosciusko.
Trick-or-treaters will not only get candy from participating merchants but can participate in a costume contest and have their face painted by Suzanne Rush.
Both events are strictly for children 12 and under and will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at participating merchants.
Participating merchants are: Boyd’s Drug Store, Cafe on the Square, Central Mississippi Office Supply, Chadick Law, Claude Julian’s, Craft Cleaners, Coghlan Jewelers, Frank Shaw, Galira’s, Gemday Jewelers, Holly Millikin, Holmes Community College Softball Team (in front of Leonard’s), Industrial Finance, Kosciusko Attala Development Corporation, Kosciusko Check Delay, M&F Bank (main branch), Patterson Jewelers, Pickle’s Drug Store, Routt Eye Clinic, Super 10, The Health Club and The Star-Herald.
Franks Chevrolet will have its Halloween activities for children at their location on Highway 35 and Family Check Advance will be handing out treats on Highway 12.
The costume contest will be at 4:30 p.m. at the gazebo by Tyler, King and Ryder.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the first place winners in the age categories 0-3, 4-6 and 7-12.
A runner up will also be chosen and will be awarded a Halloween gift.
“Each year, the safety parade brings such a large crowd of children to the Downtown area, we hope that they enjoy this additional activity,” Star-Herald General Manager Cindi Compton said.
Participants will be selected by a panel of judges and must be in full Halloween costume.
There is no fee to register to participate.
Participants can register for the event the day of the Safety Parade at the gazebo from 3:30-4 p.m.

Cyclists gathered in Downtown Kosciusko May 15 to take part in the National Ride of Silence. The mission of the world wide ride is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.
